LIVESTOCK BREEDING OFFICES

Supporting and running of AI programme is the responsibility of NLBC and Livestock Breeding Offices.  Livestock Breeding Offices store AI equipments and support AI programme by regular monitoring and delivery of equipments to districts of their command area. From this year onward, a semen processing laboratory has been established in Lahan. This office has started the production of semen of Murrah buffalo and Haryana cattle. Presented below is brief introduction of two LBOs- Lahan and Nepalgunj.

Livestock Breeding Office, Lahan

This office is situated in Lahan Municipality, Ward No. 10 of Siraha District, Sagarmatha Zone. It is located 45 km far from district head quarter, Siraha Municipality. Though, this office provides general technical support to all 16 districts of Eastern region for animal breeding programs, it is primarily responsible for supplying frozen semen, liquid nitrogen and other A.I. accessories to the A.I. running districts. Currently, DLSOs of 12 districts of Eastern region, namely Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Dhankuta, Ilam, Udayapur, Jhapa, Terathum, Okhaldhunga, Sankhuwasawa and Phanchthar are running A.I. program. Monitoring of AI programs in the Eastern region is another important responsibility of this office. From this year, LBO, Lahan has started to produce frozen semen of Murrah and Haryana bulls.

Livestock Breeding Office, Nepalgunj

This office is situated in Nepalganj Municipality, Ward No. 17 of Banke District, Bheri Zone, within the premises of Regional Livestock Services Training Center and District Livestock Services Office. The office is situated 16 Km south from Kohalpur, East West Highway.  This office is responsible for supporting animal breeding programs in general and A.I. program in particular in 15 districts of Mid /Western and 9 districts of Far western regions. At present this office supports the districts of  Banke, Bardiya, Surkhet, Dang, Kailali and Kanchanpur. In addition to regular AI program in these districts Jumla, Dailekh, Salyan, Humla, Puthan, Rukum and Rolpa districts have started seasonal AI. Monitoring of AI program, bulls for natural services and breeding groups of other livestock speicies is also a major job of this office.
